Gateway to the Stars: Legends of the Fall Sky (FREE)

The traditional favorite returns as a Park Ranger discusses the changing fortunes and misfortunes of people such as Thomas Targee and Kenneth Swyers, Percy Green, and others. The Gateway Arch Grounds have always been central to the history of St. Louis, having experienced several “incarnations” from French fur trading post to warehouse district to the present Gateway Arch National Park site. The program will be held on the Entrance Plaza, just outside the Main (west) entrance of the Gateway Arch Visitor Center.

Weather permitting, free telescope viewing will follow on the Entrance Plaza, as part of this final Gateway to the Stars event for 2024. The moon and Saturn will be our highlighted objects. If the night is very clear, there could possibly be a glimpse of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. This event will be outdoors, so be prepared for chilly weather. In the event of rain or extreme cold, the program will be moved just inside the entrance of the Gateway Arch Visitor Center- if so, there will be no access to the Museum, Arch Store, or tram ride to the top. Call 314-655-1704 during the afternoon of October 18 for a status update if you’re not sure.
