A Wonderful Winter in STL

Categories: Arch Grounds , Gateway Arch , National Park Service , St. Louis , Old Courthouse , Things to Do

We all know St. Louis weather is up, down and all around during the winter, but that won’t stop us from enjoying some of the best events the Lou has to offer. Whether you prefer to bundle up and head outside for some fresh air or stay inside with the heaters, there is something fun for everyone this winter! Check out a few of the events that caught our eye this year.

The Loop Ice Carnival

January 12, 13 and 14, The Delmar Loop

It’s a celebration of all things frozen! The winter fun kicks off Friday evening at the Snow Ball Party at Moonrise Hotel and continues all weekend throughout the Delmar Loop. With opportunities to glide down an ice slide, play ice mini golf, hunt for ice cubes, bowl with frozen turkeys, and so much more, the Ice Carnival features fun for all ages.

Cardinals Care Winter Warm-Up

January 13, 14 and 15, Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch

If there’s one thing we miss most during the colder months, it’s Cardinals baseball. From autographs from your favorite players to Adam Wainwright’s Big League Impact 2nd Annual Sing Off and Karaoke Challenge, the Winter Warm-Up is an event you can look forward to – and feel good about – year after year. All proceeds from the 22nd annual Winter Warm-Up benefit Cardinals Care, the team’s community foundation that has invested over $22 million to support St. Louis area children.

Fete de Glace Ice Carving Competition

Saturday, January 27, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., N. Main Street in St. Charles

Chainsaws, chisels and grinders, oh my! Ice carvers at the St. Charles ice festival will occupy two blocks of North Main Street, each carving and grinding a single block of ice (initially weighing 260 pounds) into a beautiful creation. Outdoor fire pits, restaurants serving breakfast and lunch, and various shops along the way make it a perfect family-friendly activity.

Great Back Yard Bird Count

Saturday, February 17, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Gateway Arch Park Grounds

Join the Audubon Center at Riverlands and National Park Service for the Great Backyard Bird Count, where bird watchers of all ages and skill levels can collect scientific data to be used by researchers, observe live birds, and learn about natural and cultural history.
